Roof shingle defect?

Saw this on one of the roofs today. The home was re-roofed in 2005. I saw the permit. I’ve never seen this on a 7 year roof before. What would cause this? Defective shingle?

Thanks,

Bert

Could there have been tree branches rubbing on the roof

Thank you Roy! It never entered my mind to associate the two… Here is a picture of the tree stump left from a large tree that damaged the fence. That explains it. Need to get the thinking cap on. Thanks again!

Looks like severe abrasion, usually by tree branches, as shown by the curved pattern.
