    Hi Mary Ann
Thank you for writing. I'm not yet open for business. I've been interested in structures, houses in their many forms for most of my life. I've worked in construction both as paid work and as volunteer, and built the house where I live now. I'm thinking that around here, being a woman might be an advantage. Deserved or not, I think we have the reputation for being meticulous, and careful with other people's property (no muddy footprints on the carpet...) I'm sorry that I don't have any advice based on experience for you. I'd think it might be good to tell clients about your experience as an apprentice, and maybe to get qualifications for "extras" such as water testing or radon. I read about some home inspector on the message board who , whenever possible, delivers his reports directly to his clients, and discussed the report with them. I really like that idea. Carla looks like a good person to get to know.
    Best wishes
    Janet

    Hi Janet,
Good to hear from you! Exciting to hear from other women in Home Inspecting. What made you decide to get into HI? For me it was after watching a couple of home inspections for my sisters homes that got me interested. I've always had an interest in home construction/remodeling/repair. Right now I am just trying to drum up some clients, marketing and networking. It's slow, but I'm hoping that with time as the real estate market picks up here in AZ that my business will pick up also. Any secrets to reaching the homebuyers? I am not having much luck with realtors, if they already have an inspector that they work with they are a hard sell.

    Enjoy the day!

    Mary Ann

Hi Mary Ann. Welcome! I'm also just starting out,... now that my children are mostly out of the nest. Right now I'm working on getting registered to do radon testing in here in Maine. Really, I don't know why there aren't more women doing home inspections. I wish you well. Janet
