Breaker labels and valve tags for inspectors.
Rich Carlisle, owner of the
CertifiedNACHIStore, has created some clever products to help inspectors indentify shutoff valves and individual breakers within electrical panels in the homes that they inspect. Inspectors who add this service to their inspection routine might be surprised to find their clients most appreciative.
Electrical Panel Label
Many circuit breakers are identified by hand-written labels that have the unfortunate tendency to become faded and illegible over time. This condition is especially prevalent in jurisdictions that comply with new National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements that place electrical panels in the outdoors. Rain, condensation, and temperature fluctuations can accelerate the deterioration of these simple labels and lead to unnecessary confusion. To solve this problem, Rich has created a set of vinyl, weather-resistant labels that can be affixed to the metal surface inside of an electrical panel. They will last much longer than standard hand-written labels and come pre-printed on tough vinyl adhesive. The set contains 44 labels that cover the gamut from standard electrical items such as furnaces and kitchen lights to optional devices such as garbage disposals and spas.
Also included in this package are six larger tags to be used to mark shutoff valves on the following household appliances:
- Water heatersWater heater gas
- Main water lines
- Main gas
- Furnaces
- Exterior faucets
The tags are striking and obvious, offering a clear, crisply printed identification on top of a blue “water splash” design on the water valve tags and a blue and yellow flame on the others. During an emergency, homeowners will be able to find shutoff valves much more easily if these tags are attached.
The front and back sides of each tag are slightly different to allow inspectors the ability to optimally match them with variable appliance orientations. Accompanying these tags are wires that can be used to affix the tags to their corresponding appliances.
