How to Become a Licensed Home Inspector in Nebraska


 
  

Home Inspector Certification (online & free for members):

 
Beginning January 1, 2023, home inspectors are required to register with the Secretary of State's Office prior to conducting a home inspection in Nebraska. 

To complete your registration, mail a completed application along with Certificate of Insurance for $250,000 and filing fee of $300 to 1201 N St., Ste. 120 Lincoln, NE 68508 or PO Box 94608 Lincoln, NE 68509. Make checks payable to "Nebraska Secretary of State."

Insurance for Inspectors

Home Inspector Continuing Education (online & free for members):

InterNACHI-Certified Home Inspectors are required to complete twenty-four (24) hours of Continuing Education every year to renew their certification. Review InterNACHI's Continuing Education Policy.

Marketing Cards (free for members):

InterNACHI members can hand out these marketing cards to licensed real estate agents to promote their businesses to licensed real estate agents. The marketing cards are free for InterNACHI members.
 
This is a great marketing strategy, because a real estate agent has to enter the InterNACHI member's ID # to gain access to a free, online course. The member is automatically notified by email when a real estate agents begins a course. InterNACHI is a Nebraska-approved course provider for licensed real estate agents

Radon Tester Licensing and CE (online & free for members):

     
To conduct radon measurements or install radon mitigation systems in Nebraska, both individuals and businesses must obtain the appropriate licenses. The Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services is approved to provide both initial radon measurement training for licensing and Continuing Education for licensed radon testing professionals. NRPP:
InterNACHI's free, online "Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course" is AARST-NRPP approved for both initial certification and Continuing Education. To complete all components of the NRPP Radon Certification, please visit their site for more information.  
 
NRSB:
InterNACHI's free, online Radon Measurement Professional Initial Training Course is NRSB-approved for initial certification. For those looking for NRSB continuing education, members should take the free, online "Advanced Radon Measurement Service Provider" course.
 

 


Wood Destroying Organisms (online and free for members):

 
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture does not currently regulate structural pest inspection. However, InterNACHI members can become certified by taking the Wood Destroying Organisms Inspection Course.

 



Commercial Property Inspections

Home Energy Inspector™ Certification (online & free for members):

 
 
Become a Certified Home Energy Inspector™. The online training and certification is free for members. No infrared, no blower door, and no additional training needed.
 
 

 

Home Energy Score Assessor (online & free for members):

The Home Energy Score is similar to a vehicle's miles-per-gallon rating, and any qualified inspector in the U.S. can generate a Home Energy Score in less than an hour. The Home Energy Score provides:
  • a score on a scale of 1 to 10; 
  • facts about the home and its energy use; and 
  • recommendations generated by the U.S. Department of Energy to improve the score and energy efficiency. 
  To become a Home Energy Score Assessor, you must:
  1. be an InterNACHI-Certified Home Energy Inspector (online & free for members); 
  2. complete the 3D-house training (online & free for members);
  3. agree to participate in a Quality Assurance Plan with other local Home Energy Inspector(free for members); and
  4. email Jazmin to participate in the program.
