May 30, 2008---Update---Weil-McLain recalls Gas Fired BOILERS---CDA.

In cooperation with CSA International, Weil-McLain of Michigan City, Indiana is voluntarily recalling approximately 3,200 CGs and CGi Gas Boilers in Canada.

The boilers are being recalled to conduct an inspection to ensure correct construction and repair if necessary. Additionally, if there is a leak in the vent piping, the recalled boilers may leak carbon monoxide (CO) into the buildings in which they are installed, posing a risk of CO poisoning. Consumers should stop using the boilers immediately unless otherwise instructed.

There have been no reports of incident or injuries..

The recall involves Weil-McLain cast iron, gas-fired boilers used for space heating. The following model numbers and serial numbers are included in the recall.

The boilers were sold by plumbing and heating wholesale distributors to plumbing and heating contractors nationwide from October 2001 through December 2007.

Maytag Recalls Dishwashers Due to Fire Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Maytag(r) and Jenn-Air(r) brand dishwashers

Units: About 2.3 million

Manufacturer: Maytag Corp., of Newton, Iowa

Hazard: Liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Maytag has received 135 reports of dishwasher fires, resulting in product and/or property damage. Four injuries have been reported, including three reports of smoke inhalation and one serious hand laceration when operating a fire extinguisher to put out a fire in the dishwasher.

Description: The recall involves Maytag(r) and Jenn-Air(r) under counter or portable plastic tub dishwashers. The dishwashers have black, white, almond, bisque and stainless steel front panels. The following model and serial numbers are printed on a label located on the dishwasher's plastic frame on top of or to the left of the door opening. Consumers should contact Maytag to determine if their dishwasher is included in this recall.

Sold at: Department and appliance stores and by homebuilders nationwide from July 1997 through June 2001 for between $370 and $800.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply by shutting off the fuse or circuit breaker controlling it and inform all users of the dishwasher about the risk of fire. Contact Maytag for either a free in-home repair, or a $75 cash back reimbursement following the purchase of a new Maytag(r), Jenn-Air(r), Whirlpool(r) or KitchenAid(r) dishwasher. Consumers should not return the dishwasher to the retailer where it was purchased, as retailers are not prepared to take units back.

CPSC, Heat & Glo Announce Recall of Gas Fireplaces

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in
cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary
recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: HEAT-N-GLO(r) Gem 36 and Gem 42 gas fireplaces
Units: About 7,800
Manufacturer: Heat & Glo, of Lakeville, Minn.
Hazard: Gas in the fireplace can accumulate prior to burner ignition.
When ignition takes place, it can cause the glass window to shatter and
create a risk of burns or lacerations from broken glass.
Incidents/Injuries: Heat & Glo has received 21 reports of shattered
glass, including four minor injuries.
Description: The recall involves all HEAT-N-GLO(r) Gem 36 and Gem 42
direct vent gas fireplaces. The model number is located on the rating
plate inside the unit on the base pan in front of the gas control. The
rating plate can be accessed by removing the lower grille on the
fireplace. This recall also includes Gem 36 fireplaces that recently
received a replacement burner assembly.
Sold at: Dealers and distributors of Hearth products nationwide sold the
fireplace from July 2002 through April 2005 for between $2,380 and
$2,700.
Manufactured in: United States.
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the fireplaces immediately and
contact Heat & Glo to make arrangements for a free repair. To be sure
that no one uses the fireplace by mistake, consumers should shut off the
gas supply to the fireplace by removing the lower grille on the
fireplace and turning off the ball valve (red lever) on the gas supply
line.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission,
in cooperation with the manufacturer named below, today announced
voluntary recalls of the following consumer products. Consumers should
stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of product: Space Heaters

Units: 186,000

Distributor: Lasko Products Inc., of West Chester, Pa.

Hazard: The power cord connection can overheat and cause the cord to
separate from the space heater. This poses a fire, burn and shock
hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: Four consumers reported burned and detached power
cords. No injuries reported.

Description: There are two types of heaters involved in this recall. The

recalled model 5500 heater is an oscillating ceramic heater with dark
grey vents surrounded by a bronze trim. The model number is located
on a label under the round base. The Model 5700 heater is an oil filled
radiator-type heater. The model number is located on a label on the
side of the heater near the right front wheel. The name "Lasko" is
printed near the top of both heaters.

Sold at: Retailers such as Dollar General and Sam's Club stores
nationwide from July 2001 through December 2003 for between $40
and $50.

Manufactured in: Model 5500 - China; Model 5700 - Portugal.

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the heaters, unplug them and
contact Lasko Products for instructions on returning the heater to
receive a free replacement heater or a product of similar value.
