COURSE OBJECTIVE:
 
The purpose of this course is provide property inspectors with advanced training and certification in becoming an InterNACHI Certified Stucco/EIFS Inspector.  Upon successfully completing this course, you should be able to:
  • OBSERVE wall claddings on a property and identify the common stucco systems (There are over 12 different types of stucco & EIFS common to residential and commercial properties)
  • APPLY non-invasive, visual-only inspection techniques as required by the InterNACHI Standards of Practice
  • IDENTIFY points of concern about the stucco or EIFS installation or its condition
  • REPORT your findings to your clients in a concise, factual manner that is specific to the property
This course will make you an InterNACHI Certified Stucco/EIFS Inspector.
 
 
COURSE STANDARDS OF PRACTICE:
  • This course is to instruct property inspectors how to inspect stucco following the InterNACHI Standards of Practice.  According to the Standards, "The inspector shall inspect the siding, flashing and trim... and describe the exterior wall covering." 
  • Learn how to identify the many different covering materials, recognize defects, and report on potential problems areas using the BEST non-invasive, visual-only inspection techniques.

STUCCO WALLS:
 
For the course we built 12 walls covered with the most common types of stucco systems and EIFS, including manufactured stone.  Each wall has different types of stucco and several concerns and defects.  During the online course, you will have the opportunity to study hi-def, digital pictures of each wall.  Play the following video:  
 

The stucco and EIFS are applied to interact with windows, openings, railings, flashing, electrical boxes, water pipes, dryer hoods and ledger boards. The exterior covering materials have been applied in open layers to reveal how stucco is installed and applied on different substrates.  Different drainage planes and moisture barriers are installed. 
 
Underlying layers  and components are open for inspection, including felt paper, house wrap, OSB, plywood sheathing, hard coats, flashing, metal lath, wire and cloth, weep holes, insulation, foam, backer rod, penetrations, sealant, wall-to-roof flashing, and more.
 
Mr. Huffman purposely embedded defects in the installation of the materials.  Over 20 different installations with over 50 defects are installed for up-close learning.  We even spray water on the walls, and then spin the walls around and watch the moisture penetrate the interior of the wall cavity.
