Have any of you used this device. I’m thinking about using it for on-site short and long term testing…

Thanks, ![icon_idea.gif](upload://6VKizmOm2U7YYmfXNtFW4XTwFVy.gif)

Radon Testing in PA is a Licensed Business activity.

I am not aware of this device being approved.

I looked on their site and they say it is designed for home use . . . they quote EPA statements on the effects of radon but do not state the device is EPA (or PADEP) approved. Nor do they have a protocol linked to it. Maybe it is too new to be listed.

New question:

Do I have to have one years worth of experience with Radon Testing to get certified by D. E. P. ???

Thanks,

J:

You will need a minimum of 16 hours of Radon Training, applicable experience, and pass the NEHA Exam.

Contact Wayne Gemmill of Gemmill Labs.

http://gemmilllabs.com/

He will assist you with the Training, Equipment and Licensing process.

The Application package that you receive from the State DEP will have a list of course providers throughout the State that provide Acceptable training.

I think it is the applicable experience requirement that provides the confusion. It seems like a catch 22. However, assuming you are starting with no other radon or nuclear environmental experience, you can become employed as a noncertified employee of a certified firm. This requires passing a radon measurement exam, a recommendation from the certified firm who will be employing you, and approval (including PADEP ID card) before commencing radon testing at the direction of the certified firm. Do that for a year and you have the requirement for your certification.

Additional experience requirements are specified as might be expected for mitigation and lab personnel and firm certification.

the NRSB.org has a listing of courses and such.

AS for the Pro II model.....I believe it is EPA approved for personal testing but it is not approved for testing in real estate transactions and in most of our work you need one approved for real estate transactions because if you go a do a test and we know radon can change from day to day..conditions to conditions you set yourself up for problems if you use that product to submit results to your clients.

I suggest E-Perms or possibly the Sun Nuclear 1027 CRM units.
