I have been putting a list of past members together to see if we can have an election rather that have someone self elect themselves just to put something on their business card. We do live in a democracy
Anyone who would like to be a voting member give me an email
We can have the best NACHI chapter in the USA with bylaws and a voted governing body that will insure the ongoing success of chapter even if one member will to choose to leave. I hope we have learned from Mr. Bell's change of mind to be part of NACHI. Let us not make the same mistake again

I understand that if he does nothing, it will become law on June 23rd, 2005.
If you don't write persuading him to veto it, don't complain about silly law-makers not listening.
I just sent... I dunno, maybe my 10th email to him asking, justifying & pleading with him as to why he should VETO it.
Send yours today, tomorrow, the day after that & even the day after too!

Carla,
The bill does NOT require licensing. At the last second the Senate allowed a piece of crapola bill on Mold testing/abatement to be hung onto the tail of the Home Inspectors’ bill. That is the main fly in the ointment. The Mold bill had already failed in both the House and the Senate but went through like grease thru a goose as a rider on the HI bill. The Florida bill on HI is not a licensing bill but a regulating bill, requirements very similar to what it takes to be a member of most HI Associations. Lots of dittling with the wording left it watered down but for the most part did not harm most HI’s and went at least in the right direction of making the HI responsible for getting their CEU’s and some initial training requirements. Could have been better but could have been a lot worse if the original had gone through. There would have been HI out of business overnight.

This bill is to put new inspectors out of business regardless of qualifications. Requirements are "written disclosure of time in industry or number of inspection" You tell me if you are going to use an inspector that has less than one year of exp and maybe 10 inspections?? Remember it is the law to state this information to the client in writing.
Lawyers, Doctors etc. are not required to supply this information.
Education requirements are 60 hrs. The mold requirements are less
There are two schools of thought with HIs - Get this basic law in and then add more restrictions to it or kill it and get a more restrictive law to protect not the citizen but the Sr inspectors regardless of skill
I apologize for going off thread since many are watching for information about the bill's pass or veto.
As you might note this bill has a lot of emotion attached to it. Now we need some logic.

Doug,
A regulatory bill would be similar to the current licensing law in Texas. This bill is a registration bill in that it has no regulatory board, no standards of practice and no enforcement. If one is found in violation of the proposed Florida bill the only recourse is a court fight. Whatever it is, it ain't licensing.

Regardless of your position you should call and let the Governor know how you feel. 850/488-4441
