Yes Nick,

They own all Certified Home , House , Property Inspector as Trade Mark.

They try to monopoly the business. this is conflict of the law in Canada .

Because no one stand out for it to against them. Lucky we still one more left for us is Certified Residential Inspector.

Don’t worry… they haven’t got the applied-for Trademark registered on any of them (they only applied)… and they likely won’t ever get awarded a Trademark on them (at least not without a disclaimer). Too descriptive.

Hi Nick,

Where did you know about that they still have not got any of the trade marks yet ?

If they did get them, why they did send us the legal letters.

Can I sue them in small claim court for lost of income ? base on the limitation of the certification.

James, sue for what? How have you suffered damages?

Wrongful or groundless threats of infringement
Various jurisdictions have laws which are designed to prevent trademarks' owners from making wrongful threats of trademark infringement action against other parties. These laws are intended to prevent large or powerful companies from intimidating or harassing smaller companies.

Where one party makes a threat to sue another for trademark infringement, but does not have a genuine basis or intention to carry out that threat, or does not carry out the threat at all within a certain period, the threat may itself become a basis for legal action.

I feel that it is a lot of bluff on their part to say that you can not use CHI. I just did a search on Google for CHI C.H.I. .

At ten pages I gave up looking for a CHI list for certified Home inspector .

I did the same with C.H.I. and again after ten pages I gave up I found no listing for Certified Home Inspector.

There is every thing from CHI CHI the golf player, to the ferries to Manitoulin Island, to growing Chinese herbs, to an electronic company.

Who owns CHI it looks like who ever wishes can use it .

My thoughts is if they can make you nervous great .

I use RHI as often as I wish and will fight to the end .

No one has challenged me .

I am ready and will go all the way past experience shows I will .

Personally I like "REGISTERED BUILDING INSPECTOR (RBI), " kinda rhymes with REGISTERED HOME INSPECTOR (RHI).

Registered implies belonging to an association. Certified suggests the association certifies competence, which Nachi really doesn't do.

Registered has a nice ring to it and is in keeping with the Canadian designation of RHI.

We all should start and use it now this could establish past usage and help to establish it . I agree does have a great ring to it .
RHI means not much to most people it only has a few about 217 who feel it has some importance
I like it because it is mine to use . See below
I wonder should I register another name Roy's Building Inspection.
this could go with my CAHPI/ON and CAHPI/ONT

Hell why not include an Association name change from NACHI to NACHI-ONTARIO? We could change the name without any official ammendment to the by-laws and change it based on a straw poll vote…? Then we could set up a National Certification Council and … hand out RBI’s… then we could pretend to dominate the Canadian home inspection profession with smoke and mirrors, then we could get taxpayer funding and …

Now is that not an interesting thought . We could be a northern branch of NACHI .
Get a set of bylaws and instantly be the largest best association in Canada.
I just happen to have a set of bylaws that are not used, need to change a couple of words and AWAY WE GO !!!!!!!!!!

We Could be like that other Association only call our selves .

NACHI/NORTH, Has a interesting ring to it.
Do we need a member of parliament to announce it I wonder.

I have a contact in the Ontario Government and perhaps a Private Members Bill is in order announcing creation of a self regulating home inspection association.

By the way, how do you go about inspecting an Igloo in the summer? Would we need a SOP for that, and should there be a need to certify inspectors through a National Certification Council on how to be qualified to inspect the melt water? ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif) ![icon_eek.gif](upload://yuxgmvDDEGIQPAyP9sRnK0D0CCY.gif)
