Is anyone out there currently using GPS Systems to locate properties? I am looking into investing in one if I can find the right one. I currently, on top of my regular inspections do 30-40 HUD inspections per month. I need the ability to find the closet property 1st and then the next closest property, so on and so forth. Any input would be appreciated.

There are [is] a wide variety of "portable" GPS systems on the market.

Ranging from $150 and up ($$$.)

Some that will connect to your pda or laptop or to your vehicle.

Garmin, Magellan, Pharos, TomTom are just a few.

I bought streets and trips gps for $130.00 and connect it to my laptop. Works great.
Sometimes I have trouble getting a signal, but that's about it.

Mapopolis is the best bar none. It is the grand-daddy of GPS for property location.

AND there is a free version that is pretty darn good.

I've been running a Lowrance I-Way 500c for several months now. It's a bit pricey ( $850 ) but it's great. Lotsa features I haven't even figured out yet ( whose gonna read those directions anyway? ) There are times when it can't locate the address, usually wrong spelling, and it doesn't always send you the shortest way, but it gets you there!

Just bought the DeLorme LT20. Hooks into your laptop. Software is Street Atlas. Buy the 2005 edition on sale. Just got mine for $75. It has a free upgrade to Street Atlas 2006.. Quite accurate in my rural area.

Microsoft Streets 2006 has voice direction and auto turn directions along with night screen settings. Ton better than the 2005 version.

Didn't like the Delorme version...so switched to MS streets.

I haven't heard about the 2006 version of Streets, but that voice thing would be a sweet addition.

Hi to all,

I am running 2006 streets and trips with the Pharos/Microsoft reciever on my old Fujitsu B142 sub-note book. I love it and the voice directions are great.

Regards

Gerry

I got a receiver for $59 and Street & Trips 2006 with voice prompts for $30.
I'm hooking it up to a tablet with a removable keyboard. I'm making a swivel bracket device to hold it. I'm mounting the receiver on the roof for best signal. I'll let you know how it works out.

Hi to all,

the capabilities of this system astound me, Skyetec is using it to help our members optimize routes for insurance inspections, here is a sample map from this project.

Combine this with cruise control and your Autopilot, and you can snooze on the way to your inspections icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Amazon has it for 33.99 and then there is a $10 rebate from MS. I've been using 2005 just for mapping directions to print and it has worked well, so I'm thinking 2006 with the GPS might work out great.

I can pretty much find my way around but the voice prompts would mean I could nap between turns.

Here's where I got the receiver: http://www.deluoelectronics.com/customer/home.php
