It’s a standard water softening system. Canisters are typically replaced monthly or bi-monthly by a service contractor. In CA, it’s typically Culligan or Rayne.

I call them exchange tanks. The water treatment company exchanges them on a schedule with regenerated tanks. One is usually a softener and the second one is typically a neutralizer or Iron filter.
