Sort of a Newbie here but things are going great. I am planning to include Radon Testing to my list of services. Does anyone have a special lab they really endorse. I have found at least 4 labs in my search for such … without going to page 2 of my search!

Thanks for all the help …

happy and prosperous 2005!

Get your own radon continuos monitor is my recommendation. I use the Sun Nuclear. The machine has paid for it self twice in one year. No lab, no waiting for results. Good luck,

My recommendation is to go to the Radalink school and lease their machines. It is so easy---- and little to no record keeping.

I'll second this.

I do not know about other stastes, but in Florida I would have to higher a Radon Specialist as I do not qualify to be a Specialist in FL. Also the paperwork for FL is all handled by Radalink. I do all the work and get all the money (less the lease) with little paperwork.

I utilize a local lab in my city.

I have my client pick up their canister from their perspective home in 48 hours. It comes equipped with a postage paid mailer that they bring to the post office for mailing. The lab receives the test in a day or two and the results are then faxed to my office on the same day.

I’m also considering purchasing / renting a continuous radon monitor. My research shows that Radalink & Femto-tech have rental programs or I can purchase a Sun Nuclear montor & printer for the price of about 6 months rental of a Radalink or Femto-tech.

Does anyone have experience with these units / manufacturers?

Is purchase or rent a better option?

Randall,
For me there is no question. I can not become a Florida Approved Radon business or even a Radon Specialist. Under present law I will never be more than a Radon Measurement Tech. I can place and retrieve sample equipment only.

So to do Radon in Florida I must work under a Florida Licensed Radon Business. There are sever that I can work with, but Radalink seemed to have the best equipment and offered many business benefits. For me rental is the way to go.

Before you decide, be sure and research your states laws and requirements. These could make the decision for you.

G-Luck

I have been using Radon-pro.com and it has been good for me. I just hang the testers properly and after 48 hours i send them next day to the lab and they test it the same day they get it. Only down fall is you can’t send them in on friday as they may not get it until monday and all test need to be run in 24hours. So i pick up my test and send them at lunch and they email me the results the next day.

Hope i helped.

Arthur:

I have used E-Perms and CRM for about 5 years now. I have found the E-Perm to be pretty close to the CRM as far as accuracy and test results.

I still maintain my licensing for E-Perms but use CRM as my primary methodology of testing.

I have used Radalink for about 10 years now and I can tell you that yes I could have bought many Sun devices and been dollars ahead, but the folks at Radalink take care of all my call backs form sellers, agents and others about any perceived problems. Dallas and crew make these people;e understand the health concerns of radon and relieve you of trying to explain why to mitigate a 4.0 and not a 3.9. Try to explain that to both agents.

I do it through Radon.com and then get into the Radon-pro.com.

2 day test, send it priority next day and have the results emailed to you.

Works great. Just can’t do pick ups and mailings on fridays.

the kits i have are by "Air Check inc.’’ and are about $8-$10 each ($6 on e-bay). does anyone know if they are sufficient enough for us “pros”. i’m not radon certified but according to the company you don’t have to be to use this test. if it is o.k. what should my mark up be for the service. i was thinking about $40 or $50. average out about $80 $100 an hour for time and the cost of the kit, plus pick up and mail out.??? icon_cool.gif

Check sampling rates of the Femto-Tech and Sun-Nuclear products. Also, their accuracy rate. For example, one of them has a 25% margin of error which can make a 4.0 level look like a 3 or a 5.

The only thing that bothers me is the lack of an option to purchase Radalink's equipment. I have used particle counters that have more sophisticated components and they were available for purchase. The ongoing lease is the only problem with Radalink. Bear in mind that calibrations and reporting is included as part of the fee.

Which monitor do you suggest runs at a 25% Error?

Taken from their website: http://www.sunnuclear.com/products/radon/Radon-Specifications.asp

Accuracy: ?25% or 1 pCi/l, whichever is greater after 24 hours.
