Buying a moisture meter

I’m thinking of getting a new moisture meter. The one I have is a very cheap one and I’m thinking of getting a better (higher tech) model. Can anyone give me any input on what brands to get or what the best one to get is?

Any help is appreciated.

This is the one I use.

wow. quite expensive…do you feel its worth its cost? or would a cheaper model give you the same result?

I have a Protimeter mini forsale - $150.00
is non intrusive meter like one above without pin plug.

If you really want a cheap alternative, a loaf of white wonder bread against the wall might work. A little humor, Spend the money to get the best instruments you need. That will more than pay for themselves in the long run!!!

I use the Mini and it seems to do well.

No one seems to use the Wagner but they look like good meters. Less money.

I have the protimeter and am very happy with it. Besides it’s a write off anyway. Quality is everything…

Moisture detection is a HUGE protection from liability, since moisture
related issues are the biggest expense paid out on all combined home
repairs (fungi-mold, decay, wood destroying insects, electrical corrosion
which leads to heat build up, etc…)

Buy a dual function moisture meter and it will pay for itself many times
over. Remember, your moisture meter is sometimes the only hard
evidence you have of an unseen defect. Your meter must demand
respect.

Dual function, I assume one that does pin and non pin?

Do you have a preference of meters/models??? The best recommendations come from those in the field, first hand knowledge, not the hype of the mfg.

Delmhorst makes the best moisture meters in the world, IMO.

Protimeter Surveymaster Dual Mode Moisture Meter

This is the one I use (with long probe adapters).

I’ve got the BD2100 with EIFS probes, a Protimeter and a Tramex for all scenarios.

The decision to buy a moisture meter is more than a matter of the pocket book.
Quality is long remembered after the price is soon forgot.
Buy that Protimeter and Tramex treat them well and they will last a long time.
Mine have.
