schedule 40 pipe

I have a section of water main pipe in a basement between the shut off and water heater that has been replaced with sprinkler schedule 40 PVC. It will never be hot water so not really my concern however is the glue a health risk

The main lines here from the streets to the house are all schedule 40 pvc so highly doubtful. Once the glue cures out its not dissolvable.

The same glue may very well be used on CPVC hot and cold supply pipe anyway. It’s no concern.

Only if inhaled before applied to the pipe (8\)

Should have a jumper on it for bonding. Especially if anything is grounded to the plumbing.

Glue, no. PVC, maybe

No! PVC is connected with a solvent .
CPVC with a glue.

They are all solvent welded. No such thing as “glue.”

I should have used cement instead of glue.

Solvent cement would be even better

I used tons of both , but the stuff used on CPVC isn’t as much of a solvent as the stuff used on PVC.

A very nice staff you have working for you…Yep !
I’m sure you are proud to have such.

Call it what you will, around here PVC and CPVC are cemented/glued/solvent welded together with the same stuff.

You are right to call out the PVC pipe as improper but not for the solvent issue.

PVC is not allowed by the IRC for water distribution. I would certainly define a pipe from the meter to the water heater as part of the distribution system.

Chapter 29 of the IRC Section P2904.4 Specifically states what pipes are allowed for water distribution and PVC is not in the lis
