New built Home Inspection

Quick question for my inspectors. For newly built homes is it necessary to be code certified? or is being code certified only necessary if you are inspecting the home in every stage?

Code certified is only needed if you are performing inspection for the AHJ. It means nothing when performing a normal home inspection.

Thank you, Stephen! I was hoping this wouldn’t be another obstacle for me to start inspecting all of these new homes here in GA.

If you’re inspecting new construction, you had better be equipped to “know what you’re inspecting” and that means knowledge of whatever code your local area has adopted.

Unless your State has a specific requirement you do not need to be “code certified” to inspect new home construction as long as you are very familiar with the “codes”. Certification by ICC or other nationally recognized code groups helps consumers see that you have taken the time to learn and understand the building codes.
