'I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way
they are, it’s going to be impossible** **
To buy a week’s groceries for $20.00.

'Have you seen the new cars coming out next year?**
**It won’t be long before $2,000.00 will only buy a
used one.

'If cigarettes keep going up in price,
I’m going to quit.
A quarter a pack is ridiculous.

'Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging a dime just to mail a letter?

'If they raise the minimum wage to $1.00,
Nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store. ’

'When I first started driving,
Who would have thought gas would someday cost 29cents a gallon…
Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.

'I’m afraid to send my kids to the movies any more…
Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying
DAMN in GONE WITH THE WIND, ** **
It seems every new movie has either HELL or DAMN in it.

'I read the other day where some scientist thinks
it’s possible to put a man on the moon by the
end of the century.
They even have some fellows they call astronauts
preparing for it down in Texas .

'Did you see where some baseball player just signed a
contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?
It wouldn’t surprise me if someday they’ll be
making more than the President.

'I never thought I’d see the day all our kitchen
appliances would be electric. ** **
They are even making electric typewriters now.

'It’s too bad things are so tough nowadays…
I see where a few married women are having to work
to make ends meet.

'It won’t be long before young couples are going to
have to hire someone
To watch their kids so they can both work.

'I’m afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the
door to a whole lot of foreign business.

'Thank goodness I won’t live to see the day when the
Government takes half our income in taxes.
I sometimes wonder if we are electing the best
people to congress.

'The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather,
But I seriously doubt they will ever catch on.

'There is no sense going to Lincoln
or Omaha anymore for a weekend,
It costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel.

‘No one can afford to be sick anymore,
At $35.00 a day in the hospital it’s too rich for
my blood.’

‘If they think I’ll pay 50 cents for a hair cut, forget it.’**

I do Been happy ever since …

Inflation in the 70’s accounts for a lot of the price increases since then. It’s crazy huh?

and the world keeps ticking. Good stuff Jae I can remember 25 cent gas

And Jae must have been a teenager 55 years ago, so he still remembers all this clearly.

Is it not great young folks like you and me can learn about the old days Marcel;-)

Wayne, the problem here is that I remember to many of those things too!!

I wasn’t born until…oh, let’s say…1976. Yeah, 1976…that was a very good year to be born.

But we do not have to admit that Marcel lololol

Jae, you meant to say your grandkids were born on that date right?

That is true.

**'I’m afraid the Volkswagen car is going to open the **
door to a whole lot of foreign business.

Yeah, it’s Volkswagen fault, I new it. :stuck_out_tongue:

The biggest thing I remember is all my life I have heard they don’t make things the way they used to. Now when I inspect a home and it has a 20 year old water heater or air conditioner all the realtors say “see they don’t make things the way they used to”.

All things in a home do not last as long as they once did. My mom had the same Maytag wash machine for 30 years. Now, most items are made of less copper, less porcelain, thinner metals, plastics, and just do not last as long. Back in the 50’s, imports were made cheap. Now, it is the new American way.

An ounce of gold in 1900 bought a top of the line suit. Today, the same ounce of gold buys the same suit.

Heck, no…my grandkids were born in 19…uh, wait a minute, here.

Let’s just clear up a few thinks here…

Yeah, they were born then…so when was I born???..
In the year of planet Earth 877…

Where was I born???..
On a small oval planet in a far away galaxy on the other side of the phigspheric gases…

Why was I born???
I am ordained to come to Earth and straighten out the Home Inspection Industry…
I shall start on that project soon. It has taken me almost 500 of your years to prepare myself for this most magnificent undertaking.

Who was I when I was born???..
Originally, before the flight here, I was known as %##@&%)(@#$…

…I never told anyone my real name, but they call me that anyway. Interesting, don’t you think??

I think maybe you are being facetious:), but, actually, that was a legitimate concern in the '50’s…mostly with the auto industry. But some “knowledgeable” (other) industry leaders not so secretly felt that other business venues would invade the US–and US manufacturing would leave these shores for distant lands.

Of course, this is what I was told many years later since I wasn’t born until 1968.:shock:;)

That’s a fact–“they” don’t make things the way they used to.

Winkler oil furnaces manufactured in the 50’s are going great guns today all around SW Ohio. Appliances, like Roper ranges, made in the “old days” are still working–with some repair. And there are other examples…

Today’s products are by and large “throw away”…

Jae, in the other post prior, you said you were born in 76.

wasn’t born until…oh, let’s say…1976. Yeah, 1976…that was a very good year to be born.

You having a touch of OldTimers memory loss?:wink:

typo…1876 :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah…that’s when it was–1876:grin:

Say, when was 1876 anyway???:-k:-k
