New hurricane code

My area of inspection is Volusia and Flagler county in Florida. My husband is a construction tool repairman and a customer (building contractor) told me that in St. Augustine they are using a large diameter bolt for roof to wall and roof deck to truss/rafter connection. He indicated a 10-12" bolt. This is being used in stick houses and they no longer use hurricane straps or clips. Any information?

I would think you are referring to a HD connection which is typically used at strategic points within the envelope and are structural hold downs utilizing a threaded bolt.
Sanibel straps @ each rafter is more common for uplift. Not sure what you are referring to.
