I liked Franks post about Google Earth, and one good deed deserves another!
Tried these suggestions for my sluggish operating system and it’s worked wonders.

For AutoRun The trick was to go into options and make sure hide microsoft and hide windows is on, so critical programs aren’t turned off. Then go down the list and uncheck any program you don’t use. Some instructions mentioned that only one anti virus program needs to be running. I don’t know. Obviously, if you’re not sure of what to do, don’t do it, or it’s at your own risk.
The above and following the tips for visual effects worked really well. I was already familiar with the other info on the page. I am very happy with the results so far.
