In a ruling that came about because of the Chicago handgun ban, the Supreme Court just ruled that the Constitution’s “right to keep and bear arms” applies nationwide.
Bad day for criminals and tyrants… great day for women and free people.
The important thing is that now lawsuits can proceed against many states and municipalities that have been arbitrary and capricious in not allowing people to possess firearms. Before today, there was uncertainty about whether states and municipalities could be sued at all under the 2nd Amendment. That uncertainty is now gone.
What is not clear yet is how strictly the 2nd Amendment right will be applied with respect to various infringements. For example, laws or ordinances against open carry (or any form of possession outside the home) will be challenged, but it will take a long time before there is a consensus among states that the 2nd Amendments protects this as a right.
The other thing to consider is the fact that this was a 5-4 vote. we are one liberal justice away from making rulings such as this much harder to win.
In other words, we have at least 4 justices on the SC that voted against the Constitution the way the Founders wrote it.
Or in other words, we have at least 4 justices on the SC that voted to leave women with nothing but their screams and their fists as a means of self-defense. Sickos.
The real problem is that there are just too many people in the world, and too much money flowing. Those four justices need to walk around downtown in a dark alley at 3:00 A.M. and see if guns are important.
Those four justices need to have their families rounded up by a tyrannical government to see if guns are important.
Don’t worry. The U.S. government would never do that. Before our own government becomes tyrannical, they’ll start taking over major insurance companies, car companies, and banks :roll:.
The complete acronym, I believe, is
SCROTUM.
Or something like that…
