I know there are some home inspectors who sell or trade their customers personal data to third party vendors for consideration, but one of the largest corporations in the world says they won’t, and I think you shouldn’t either.
And? Google would sell their own mother and her info. Google/Android - winning. Apple - losing. See the trend? If I’m up front with my clients and can sell them something useful and make a profit (home inspection, WDO, wind mit, carpet/flooring, HVAC, windows, roof, home security etc…), count me in. What other profession does this? Just about ALL of them. Attorneys refer auto repair, doctors, CPA’s, Realtors, appraisers, repair professional etc… and make a profit. Doctors push certain drugs and specialists for a profit. Home inspectors that DON’T do home inspections want privacy for no profit. It should be easy for you, you don’t HAVE clients!
If you are happy with ADT and Brinks making money, be happy for your fellow home inspectors for doing so as well. What’s the big deal? The person that makes a profit? Envy? When I sold real estate, I had clients actually ask me for security company info. Wow, a client wants to be safe in their home. Novel idea. I must tell them NOOOO!!! I can’t give you that info or have anyone contact you either for that matter! There are 10 people on this entire planet that have a pledge and I must follow those dumb@asses!

Potential clients are who would need these services. If they are in need of the services and inquire about such services, what is wrong? I’m asked all the time who I would recommend to replace an FPE panel, replace/repair HVAC, fix a leak, home owners insurance etc (I do a lot of 4 points around here)… If they have a Realtor, I leave that to them and their Realtor. Would you rather receive an unsolicited call from an insurance company or ADT or a call from someone that you trust recommended? Now were just talking about whether someone should profit from their work or not? Should I provide all this knowledge for free? If so, how much knowledge should I provide for free? Should I do wind mit’s free? WDO? Mold? Estimates? Repair instructions? Consultations?
I provide services, which ones should I profit from? Just the ones you like?
Seems someone’s a bit Homophobic. Perhaps if you learned some compassion you wouldn’t feel so threatened. What are you afraid of? “It” won’t rub off on you!
