State of Indiana
On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, the State of Indiana Electrical Code Review Committee of the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission will hold the first of several monthly public meetings of the committee to review the 2008 National Electrical Code (NFPA 70-2008) for possible adoption, with proposed amendments, by the Commission.
We hope that four or five monthly meetings will be sufficient to create a proposed rule for consideration by the Commission. The initial meeting will be held in Conference Center Room 2, Indiana Government Center South, 402 West Washington Street, Indianapolis. The meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m., and probably will last until 3:00 p.m., with a break for lunch.
If you or someone you know would like to participate in the process, please respond or ask that a response, together with a commitment to meet one day per month beginning with the January 15, 2008 meeting, be sent to Raleigh Kouns by email, FAX, or telephone as shown below. Please include the name of your business and your contact data with a commitment message so we can communicate with participants by distributing meeting minutes, code change proposals, a list of participants, etc.
The room we have scheduled for the first meeting will accommodate 30 people. If we get commitments from more people, we will try to schedule a larger room. Each participant will be given a copy of NFPA 70-2008 at the initial meeting. If more than 25 people commit we will have to distribute copies of the model code to representatives of the various interest groups.
The planned agenda for the initial meeting follows:
Welcome and logistical information
Introduction of and comments by David Hannum, Commission Chairman.
Introduction of and overview of the rule-making process by James Schmidt, Deputy Attorney General.
Review operational structure of the committee:
A code services staff member will chair the committee.
A commission member may participate in the committee meetings.
The model code will be reviewed based on proposed code changes from the committee participants.
Code changes may be proposed by submitting the attached code change proposal form to Raleigh Koun for distribution to participants at least 14 calendar days prior to the next meeting.
Each organization/industry/interest group is entitled to one vote regardless of the number of participants from that group. A simple majority of votes from those groups present at a meeting will determine whether a specific code change will be included in the committees report to the commission.
The goal of the committee is to create a complete proposal that is subject to modification by staff to meet the States constitutional and statutory requirements.
- Selection of an individual to record and distribute meeting minutes
- Distribute code books
