KY Proposes Major Change Involving NACHI

SB 66 was approved by the Senate Licensing & Occupation Committee
today with nine ‘yes’ votes, one ‘pass’ and no ‘no’ votes.

As amended, the bill adds two NACHI members to the selection
committee that nominates home inspectors to the Governor for
appointment to the “At-Large” positions on the KY Board of Home
Inspections. However, rather than add NACHI as one of the
associations that has an appointment to the board, the amended bill
removes the power of ASHI, NAHI, and KREIA to appoint members to
the board. Under the bill as amended, all five home inspector
positions on the board will be “At-Large” positions, nominated by
the selection committee and appointed by the Governor.

I think this is good news. I’ve always been against requiring membership in a particular association to be a requirement for serving on the board. Of course, I’m also against having realtors, home builders etc on the board.
