Flashing

New home with vinyl windows and Hardy plank siding. The doors are flashed but the windows are not; I know with vinyl siding and vinyl windows there is no flashing. Any help!

Just spent time with the reps from Hardie and CertainTeed. We had this exact question. They do not have a requirement for Z flashing, HOWEVER, they both require that the top of the windows NOT be caulked. There must be a 1/4 " separation. If it is caulked, it is wrong. If they install the Z flashing and caulk it, it is wrong. Windows, doors, foundation vents and faucets are all the same.

Was there wood trim around the windows? or did they just butt it up to the window frame?

What keeps out the water then???

With fiber cement siding the water needs to escape at this point. You put your dab of caulk in the very corner and nothing goes down the sides.

There was wood trim around the frame. So no flashing or caulk at top and no caulking on sides?
