2 single pole instead of double pole

Came across this in a maybe 700 square foot home. No breaker labeling on panel. I assume this is for the furnace. Very small wall furnace. Instead of using a double pole breaker, they used 2 single pole breakers. When i did a little research, I couldn’t find a for sure answer as to whether or not they needed to be replaced with a double pole breaker, or just identified tie?

Need to know type of breaker some you can buy a bridge to tie them together ,or is there a tie on the breakers

Showing that a handle tie is available does not mean it is the right part for the application . A two pole may be required .

OP, what is a wall furnace?

If the furnace is using a neutral along with the two phase conductors then a 2 pole CB is required. If it’s just a straight 240 volt load then you can use a handle tie.

Very small gas furnace from floor to ceiling in kitchen. Return air at bottom. Supply air blows out from top. Vents into chimney. No duct work.

Very small narrow gas furnace attached to wall from floor to ceiling in kitchen. Return air at bottom. Supply air blows out from top. Vents into chimney. No duct work.

A gas fired wall heater typically has a 120 volt single PH motor as from the factory, it is a fractional HP. If in fact it was a 240 volt motor which I doubt someone changed it out after the fact. Fractional HP 240 volt motors are typically used in commercial refrigeration.

Good to know, thank you.
