This is the first time I found a whirlpool bath protected by an AFCI in the main panel. The whirlpool would stop when it was tripped. There is a wall mounted GFCI in the master bath closet but does not stop the whirlpool when tripped. It turns off the light above it. House was built in 2006
Sounds like a mistake. Someone installed AFCI protection where GFCI protection is required.

The breaker pictured is a GFI, not an AFCI.
