Really old aluminum wiring?

Sorry for all the questions lately guys but I’ve had a run of it. The conductors in this very old panel did not appear to be copper but it was my understanding that aluminum was basically only used in the 70s to early 80s. This house was 1880. Obviously this panel was newer than that but still quite old. This is also a sub panel by the way.

Tinned copper. Aluminum had a plastic insulation and sheath.

Ok. Thank you for that. I appreciate it.

Good job on the photos too

Cloth wiring with tinned copper. Worse than solid AL wiring IMO.

Why?
Cheers

Yes! Really !

What camera do you use?
