I found receptacles installed on the wall of a kitchen island 18" off the floor. it was on the side where the overhang was a good 14" deep for people to sit at and eat on stools. Is this all right? The top was all on one level; 36". I remember seeing that receptacles should be a max of 12" down from the counter top.
If there is another recepacle within 12" of the countertop it would be fine. The lower one does not satisfy the code requirement for serving the countertop.
Nor does the one under the overhang count as well to serve that island based on the overhang you expressed.
