oil steam boiler help

I am not too familiar with the inner workings of a oil fired steam boiler and found this broken liner inside the front access panel at a recent inspection. How big an issue is this? Is this part replaceable or is the boiler in need of replacement? I was not able to operate the heating system as the thermostat was not functioning - may have been intentional. A comment on the service tag from 2001 said “unit needs chamber kit”. Is this the same thing? Any help and comments would be appreciated.

John- The refractory liner can be replaced. The liner protects the combustion chamber from the flame. As long as the chamber is undamaged, it’s not that big a deal. The boiler looks old, so I’d call for a Heating Contractor to determine the cost of repairs, and to estiamte it’s remaining lifespan.

Thanks Bill!
