Default Sheetmetal Duct Support

Is there a "proper" way to support sheetmetal ductwork in a basement? I came across this today and it just doesn't seem right. I've looked in my code check book but don't see anything regarding support. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, I can go with that. Thanks Roy!

Out of general knowledge; how are they supposed to be supported?
