TPR drain line touching floor

Several times I’ve seen the copper TPR drain lines terminating within 1/4" of the floor or sometimes actually contacting the floor. Normally I think 6" is common. I was wondering if there are any codes that state proper termination height above the floor.

UPC 608.5 = 6 to 24 inches from the floor

IRC 2803.6.1 = within 6 inches of the floor.

I’m gonna start measuring for exactly 6 inches then!

Kidding!

Thanks all. What would be a good comment when they are actually touching the floor, repercussions etc. If the IRC says within 6", I guess touching would meet that.

Go out on a limb and recommend trimming some of the piping off.

The repercussions would be the same as a blocked tpr line during failure.

…or cut a hole in the basement floor…

Mike P. I’d go with the IRC code. UPC or not, 24’’ is too high.

I would think that wether it is 1/4" or 24" from the floor, someone has noticed wether or not there is a floor drain to take care of it. It will work no matter what the distance is from the floor unless the valve is in default.
