The wall between a siphon or pump chamber and the previous chamber must be watertight (except for the intended opening).

The tank must be anchored where ground water or floodwaters could cause instability or floatation.

If the manufacturer doesn't provide anchoring recommendations, the anchoring system must be designed by a P.E.

Tanks must be permanently and legibly marked including manufacturer, serial number, effective volume, maximum depth of earth cover, inlet and outlet identifications.

For multi-family and non-residential applications, a tank must be sized to permit detention of wastewater flows for at least 48 hours.

A septic tank must have tow or more compartments or more than one tank may be used in series. The first must hold no less than 1/2 of the required effective volume.

Inlet tees must extend above the surface of the liquid at least 5 inches. Must also extend a minimum of 8 inches below the liquid surface. However the inlet tee must not extend to a depth of more than 40 percent of the entire liquid depth.

The distance from the outlet invert to the underside of the tank top must be at least 10 inches.

Liquid depth must be a minimum of 30 inches and the maximum depth must not exceed tank length.

The transfer of liquid from the first compartment to the second must be made at a liquid depth (measured from liquid surface) of 35 and 40 percent of the liquid depth.

A tank must have a minimum of 25 square feet of liquid surface area and have at least a 6 foot separation between inlets and outlets.

Flexible pipe couplings (FERNCOs) are only permitted in the gravity flow portions of an OWTS.
