ABS to PVC connections

Hi all,

Are ABS to PVC connections a bad idea?
Thats what I’ve been taught but thought I’d check with
the brain trust on this.

One permitted between old and new work only using special transition cement that is green.

In WI that is.

Regular PVC or ABS solvents do not adequately “weld” the two incompatible types together.

Cool Mike, haven’t heard about the transistional cement before. Thanks!

I’ve also heard that ABS and PVC have different expansion/contraction rates that makes joints fail. You heard that one?

PVC requires the use of a primer

ABS does not

Transition cement is colored green so AHJ sand home inspectors can make sure the right cement was used.
