A 12 year old direct vent gas water heater was in a closet just big enough to hold it in a small condo 7 floors up. The closet had a hollow core door. It was quite hot in there. Looking from the out side there was a 4 inch square vent into the closet about 3 ft off the ground. From the inside just a two inch round fascia vent that looked clogged and bent shut. I assume that if this vent were larger the heat would dissipate but could the more serious issue be with the water heater itself? Do faulty water heaters get hotter?
