When its heating the water…I turned it to the hot position to check…
I hear pinging sounds… almost like your hitting the side of it with a hammer.
Anyone know what it is? Will it stop, or should I recommend service?

The “popcorn” sound is an indication of excessive sediment build up in the bottom of the tank.
Recommend flushing the tank, but also warn that it may require replacement soon due to lack of maintenance.
