Slab Footing.

I’m inspecting a slab house today I noticed how the soil has pulled away a bit from the foundation due to the hot weather. As I am looking closer there does not seem to be a footing around the house. I could stick my screw driver under the slab (about 8 inches) in several different areas. Shouldn’t there be a continuous footing around the house or am I mistaken here. Thanks in advance for the input.

Was it a house addition?

Yes, there should be a footing. If a mono-slab, it would look something like this:

No it is not an addition. I even checked a couple houses around this one and they were the same way. The house was built in 2004 also.

Are you in Mexico?

ROFL, no Im in Missouri.

Commentary: Footings are required to extend below the ground surface

2. Constructing in accordance with Section R403.3;
3. Constructing in accordance with ASCE 32; or
4. Erected on solid rock.”

Thanks Joe, I have that. I just cant imagine all these homes in this subdivision being built like this and the Code inspectors not catching this or something.

Are you sure it isn’t just a localized void (air pocket)?

Are you in mexico lol  Joe you crack me up buddy.

Just curious…

How did you know this? Did you inspect the house prior, during cold weather? Inquisitive minds want to know.

That’s a good find, go back and take more pictures for your library.

Mexico, that’s hilarious. I was going to guess Arkansas.

Well, we are an INTERnational organization!

Well there is Mexico MO.

We are in Missouri. After inspecting for awhile, nothing surprises me any more. Some contractors will try to get away with anything In Missouri.

Well, Mark, it sure would help if you listed your location!
