Home Inspector Code of Ethics Course

A potential conflict of interest could come up if a home inspector was also contracted to perform corrections identified in a home inspection. For example, if a home inspector flagged crumbling brick chimney on a property during the home inspection and then and then offered the sellers a discount to repair the masonry on the chimney. Even though a home inspector could be a licensed contractor, this situation could be perceived as a conflict of interest. In this scenario, it would be a violation of the Code of Ethics if the work was contracted within 12 months of preforming the home inspection.
