Whgroup sang the song the following lyrics came from and what was the name of that song?

Good questions Manny.

1- The 6-mil polyethylene film is used at the brick course below the bottom of the sheathing and framing to collect condensation that may run down the wall behind the brick.
2- C
3- A & C
4-Seam edges must be cut from the face using a loop pile cutter or cushion back cutter such as Roberts 10146 or
equivalent. A premium quality seam sealer containing UV enhancers is mandatory on all cut edges of every seam.
5- Proper installation practices…

1-used as a flashing to direct water out away from the interior of the wall
2-b
3-a
4-requires proper seam sealing to prevent unraveling using a seam trimming tool such as a cushion back cutter or loop pile cutter
5-Steppenwolfe - Born to be wild

Oh! Good ones!

looks like I forgot to answer one question…oh well

If it were up to me I’d let you properly answer #5 only …
Let him do it committee members…

5-good building practices
6-Steppenwolfe - Born to be wild

Great questions Manny! Thanks for your time!

  1. The poly acts as a flashing to direct water away from the structure.

  2. B
  3. A & B
  4. Seam sealer must be used on the primary and secondary backers to
prevent unravelling. The carpet is cut with a cushion back or loop pile
    cutter.
  5. Best installation techniques

EC. John Kay & Steppenwolf – I don’t want to say how many years ago I saw
them live!

When I fell off the ladder in front of my wife, I expected sympathy but got a boatload of “lippage” instead.

  1. To hold the bottom edge in place and make a flashing channel to capture any moisture that gets behind the brick veneer. In conjunction with the moisture barrier, the poly will guide the water to weep holes at 4 foot intervals.
  2. B
  3. A, C
  4. All carpet cut sizes should have been conditioned for 24 hours prior to installation, then a premium quality seam sealer containing UV enhancers is mandatory on all cut edges of every seam to prevent unravelling.
  5. The “high level theme” behind these questions is to understand the core issues of poor installations and finding information from manufacturers and trade associations for the proper installation methods.

Bonus - it’s the first album I ever bought - I can still remember the smells of the plastic wrap and the vinyl - Steppenwolfe . Born to be wild

Oh we’re getting so close! Any others want to jump in for a try?

  1. To protect the wall from moisture and allow the moisture collected to properly drain.

  2. C

  3. A & C

  4. Prior to seaming together, both trimmed edges of the pieces
to be joined must be sealed with an appropriate adhesive. Latex seam sealer or
thermoplastic are general used, but the carpet manufacturer’s requirements should be followed. The seam adhesive must be applied so that it encapsulates both the primary and secondary backings.
Trimming tools used as recommend by the manufacturer of the carpet.

  5. Proper installation techniques and following manufacturer’s specifications.

Still so close but there is time yet if any out there would like to try.

Aww so close this week with all questions except #1 answered.

Here are the answers to the questions.

**1. ** On brick veneer construction a typical 6 mil poly plastic is used for the flashing at the base of walls. This poly is draped across the foundation brick ledge before placement of the brick veneer. What is the purpose and significance of placing the poly in this way? Please provide a brief description and not just a one or two word answer.

Answer: The black poly plastic acts as a bond break between the first course of mortar/brick and the concrete foundation. This allows more free movement of the brick during expansion and contraction and helps prevent brick cracking and damage as a result of expansion and contraction.

The Brick Industry Association sets the standards for much of the brick and brick work performed today. In their Technical Note 18A they provide in depth information on “Accommodating Expansion Of Brickwork”](http://www.gobrick.com/docs/default-source/read-research-documents/technicalnotes/18a-accommodating-expansion-of-brickwork.pdf?sfvrsn=0).

c. 1/16"
d. 1/8"
e. There is no such term or standard called “lippage”

Answer: b. 1/32"

This can be found at the Natural Stone Institute who sets many standards for natural stone use in their Residential Stone Countertop Installation document, Section 11.3 Lippage, found here http://pubs.naturalstoneinstitute.or…7-e67c2d781e33 .

**3. **Most commercially available radiant barrier material products fall into what two categories?

**4. **When installing broadloom carpets what must be performed, and why, at the cut carpet seam edges prior to installation? What is used to accomplish this?

**Answer: **All seam edges must be sealed to prevent edge ravel. This is accomplished by applying an appropriate seam adhesive covering the thickness of the primary and secondary backing without contaminating face yarns on both edges of the seam.

The Carpet And Rug Institute sets the standards for installation of carpeting and these standards are CRI 105 Carpet Installation Standard for Residential Carpet located here Installation Standards - CRI . If you read the installation requirements from all major carpet manufacturers they will reference these as the installation standard and will hold your warranty coverage against these standards being properly performed.

**5. ** Looking back to how and where you obtained the answers for this set of questions what was the high level theme behind these questions?

**Answer: **This is a broad question and can result in many valid answers which will be evaluated along with the answers provided to the questions above. However the general theme of this question set is that building codes and typical standards such as ANSI, NEMA, etc., etc., do not provide answers to every issue we may need answers and references for. There are many very large and respected industry associations that set the standards for these items with virtually every industry having such an association. It is important that we become familiar, as best possible, with what industry associations are out there and which tend to set these standards.

Good questions Manny! Thanks for your time!

Good questions. So those corner pops at foundation are the result of missing bond breaks…
