I was on the radio and had about 20 questions able to answer them all ,except .
Squeaky real Hard wood floor. No access from underneath.
Any thoughts .
I was told on the air to try talcum powder .
Received an email saying the same thing, received another email says it does not work .
I said I would ask the experts and see if they have any thought or ideas .
Have received 16 e-mails and more now arriving

Roy,

Powders and oils are only a temporary fix. The squeak may not even be in the hardwood but in the sub-floor below. The only permanent solution ( if it bothers you enough) is to screw down the offending area to stop the movement. I have used #7, 2" drywall “trim” screws. Locate the floor joist (can be tricky) where the squeak is, pre-drill pilot hole and insert screw(s). The heads of the screws are small enough that a furniture crayon can touch up. Home Depot sells special screws for squeaky floors. You snap the heads off after the screw has be inserted into the floor. They are a bit big though for this type of fix.

Good one Roy R I remember seeing them about 20 years ago and forgot .
If I remember there is a tripod to keep the screw straight and not go to deep.

I have used cedar shims underneath the sub floor with sucess in the past.

Excellent idea, if you have access from underneath. I tap them in with subfloor adhesive.
