IMPORTANT MEETING BETWEEN CANADIAN HOME INSPECTION
LEADERS YIELDS CONSENSUS

Participants of March 6 Meeting Reach Accord on Pressing Industry Topics

On March 6, over 20 home inspection industry leaders representing home inspection associations, Canadian home inspection franchisors and home inspector networks met at the Holiday Inn Burlington Hotel & Conference Centre in Burlington. The industry stakeholders discussed subjects pertinent to Canadian home inspectors including the proposed Canadian Standards Association A770 home inspection standard and the importance of cooperation between associations for the mutual benefit of the profession and the public.

The March 6 meeting brought together Canada’s foremost home inspection authorities in the interest of reaching an accord on the CSA A770 proposed standard that stands to have a profound impact on the home inspection profession. Meeting participants unanimously agreed to establish a Task Force of home inspectors to voice industry concerns regarding the A770 standard from an industry perspective.

Representation from industry leaders was substantial. Professional Home & Property Inspectors of Canada (PHPIC) Chair Allan Spisak and Past Chair Doug Kendall, Canadian Association of Home and Property Inspectors (CAHPI) President Blaine Swan, Canadian National Association of Certified Home Inspectors, Inc. (CanNACHI) President John Wright and National Home Inspector Certification Council’s (NHICC) President and Chair Claude Lawrenson and admission board member George Webb represented a few of the many industry leaders that were in attendance.

“I want to say thanks to one and all for their contributions here,” said NHICC’s Lawrenson. “It is my sincere hope that we will all work towards our much needed common ground in the future.” Inspectors and home inspection franchises were also duly represented at the meeting, providing a voice for individual and franchisee inspectors. “It was truly inspiring to be a part of this stakeholders group and we hope that we can continue to work together towards the betterment of the industry,” said Mark Diplock, lead inspector for the Mike Holmes Group

“The home inspection industry is poised for incredible change and growth in the next 5-10 years,” said Dan Steward, president and CEO of Pillar To Post Home Inspectors, North America’s largest home inspection company. “There is room for all of us, whether as an independent owner-operator, a corporate brand or a franchise brand. We collectively represent the industry and must do so in a way that respects the variety of business models. Many industries have figured out how to deal with this diversity of business models while collectively proudly defending their industry; realtors, lawyers, doctors, insurance brokers, financial planners and others have all figured this out and we can too. Let’s hold onto to our heartfelt view that we help consumers make informed financial, health and safety decisions, and the view that our industry is important to the efficient transaction of residential real estate. I am proud of what we do and want to see us all grow in industry influence, professional regard and financial success for its practitioners.”

Nothing but good reports from the representatives that attended from Ontarioachi.

There is Hope!

Pillar to Post is the lone holdout. They have to get rid of Dan Steward. He’s holding our industry back.

likewise from AlbertaACHI

Thanks Doug for posting this release. It was a very productive meeting, and more work to be done to have a common standard that “we” all can live with. Perhaps that should be realistically “the vast majority” can live with that does not create undue risk and potential harm to the home inspection sector with unreasonable expectations.

Great to see a common interest in finding common ground.

I’m surprised that there is so little comment.
Wonder why?

Cheers

This was a joint press release and it has gone out from several associations, a number of inspector networking groups and some major franchises regarding a meeting held between an all party group of Inspectors.

Each group has released a modified version of the release to try to get as much traction with the press.
