#2 lumber standards for trusses

I’m assisting in finding a complete, detailed standard for #2 truss lumber: spesificaly, how close and how big can knots be, does visible pitch matter, does spit boards disqualify the board? I’m working on 100 ft free span truss if that changes anything. Todd

Most lumber is graded according to strength meaning compression and tensile strength. Each specie of wood has different properties and only an engineering firm and truss company can determine those tolerance in a particular application. I wouldn’t even attempt to discern whether it’s an appropriate application. There should be a tag and date stamp somewhere on the trusses. Refer it back to the manufacturer or hire a licensed structural engineer who can determine if sap or grading is of any real consequence. I see non structural #2 wood all the time used for framing unless it’s spec’d otherwise.
