to keep or not to keep this tree

We have a tree off center in the front of our house, close to the driveway. It is a sweet gum tree. The front of our house moves out and in depending on the time of year about 2 inches and the structural engineer said it is from the tree, drawing moisture away from the house. He said water the tree and the wall will move back in the summer like it does in the winter. The move is 2 inches. We are trying to sell the house. We are having cracks filled with epoxy. Shouldn’t we cut down the tree even though the roots are extensive? Will that stop the robbing of the moisture? The next owner may not water the tree like we are. I have seen little movement in the wall since we have been watering the tree. Would appreciate your opinion. Jan Jordan lj_jordan@comcast.net
