Inspection & Writing Assignment:

This is an image of a ladder being used to inspect a roof from the eave. This image has multiple problems. First, it is not the correct ladder for the job. Second it is setting in the bed of a pickup because it is not tall enough. And third the spreader is not opened fully so the lock is engaged. It is recommended that the inspector purchase a high quality extension ladder to be able to observe roofs.

Research & Writing Assignment:

I have studied the article on Inspector safety equipment. The inspector should have coveralls, flashlights, goggles for inspecting crawlspaces. The inspector needs two types of ladders. A step ladder is needed inside and an extension ladder is needed outside along with and ladder tie offs. Gloves, respirators, road cones and danger signs are other miscellaneous safety items and inspector needs.

Research & Writing Assignment:

Scaffolding should be used when construction or repair of pool screening is to be accomplished. Using a ladder and resting it up against the pool frame may not provide the proper strength to support the worker. The use of staging or scaffolding would be a safer choice.

Research & Writing Assignment:

The image entitled "Safety Goggles" shows the image of the personal protective gear that a home inspector could wear to protect themselves from any debris or objects that could cause injury to the eyes during an inspection. It is of great importance to protect yourself during a home inspection as many of the systems and components that we inspect can cause serious damage to your body, as such it is of high importance that we protect ourselves with the proper PPE, Personal Protective Equipment.

Inspection & Writing Assignment:

As can easily be seen in the photo. This multi-purpose ladder is too short for it's intended use, because of not extending a minimum 3 feet above the roof's landing. This will require the user to step or crawl up onto the top step in order gain roof access.

Research & Writing Assignment:

The exterior inspection drawing shows the importance of an actual roof top examination. Areas of importance on the slide were chimney wall infractions, gutters, and electrical masts. However, also pictured were a shingle roof covering, dormer window wall and valley flashing, plumbing vent penetrations, and roof mounted equipment. All important.

Research & Writing Assignment:

My image was a broken rung on attic stairway.
As I begun my attic inspection I first noticed the stairway was stored but not evenly. This was an indication of damaged or missing hardware. I pulled on the rope to lower the unit and noticed a broken rung and loose hardware. I reported my findings as a ladder in need of upgrade, took a couple photos and got my ladder to complete the attic inspection.

Inspection & Writing Assignment:

Ladder placement on a building is a major safety concern. Too close to the building or too far away can cause an injury. Ladders should be placed one foot away from the building for every 4 feet in height. The top of the ladder should exceed the top of the building by 3 feet. Always using a tie off is essential so the later does not fall while in use or while on the roof.
