For $62 I can see how it works out for me as I think walking roofs is not the smartest way to spend time when your over 60. As the OP suggested, try the "toy" drone and see how you like it.

Walked a roof last week and yes you can see more than from a ladder but I think a painters pole is the smart way to go and plan on getting the 30' one I saw for a couple of hundred.

I am in a small group of inspectors that doesn't think roof walking is needed.
Do you have a link for the $62 drone?

Yep, that's the link.
There are similar links for other drones in the same price range.

I also bought some batteries and charger for about another $20.

I thought it through and am OK with not walking anything beyond a 6 or 7/12.

When nail guns first came out a lot of the guys wouldn't use them, 2 years later they all had them. Reason was nail guns weren't as good as hand nailing, that didn't last.

I see a home inspection as a general inspection, not a " Squirrel chewed your cap vent" inspection. 25 pages and the other photos on demand.

I just sent a buyer 75 pictures this morning, inspection went fine and she asked if she could have all the pictures I took, no problem! I rarely put the small stuff in there although if the buyer is present I may mention it. I do home inspections, not molecular biology.

Paul - I bought the cheap one too, will get it on Thurs. Will play with it and maybe use it on 3 or 4 inspections a year that I can't get to the roof. If not, will play with it on the golf course and thrill my grandkids. $62 is worth the experiment.

Glenn ... THANKS for the time and effort to put your findings and great modifications on the board. I don't use a drone TODAY, but the future is coming.

What I'm thinking also, at the least I could fly candy over to the kids. Try it out and see if I might end up buying a professional drone this spring.

I got extra batteries also, another $15

Old thread, I sold the AR a few months ago and upgraded to the DJI FC40. Much more stable and usable in tight quarters. Down on the beaches and around here with mcmansions built straight up, there is no viewing the roofs without these or a spectoscope/Tall camera pole and I'm not carrying a 30 foot extandable on the vehicle. I'm an inspector not Nick Lawenda.

I am but a rookie, but this will be the main selling point of my inspections- coming soon to Virginia (specifically Northern!)

Now to research the legalities- as we have many "alphabet boys" in the area (FBI, CIA, etc.) and lots of restricted airspace as I live near Dulles....

I will keep reporting to you all as I go, I promise!

Best,

Tia (7Woods Management LLC)

Yes the Parrot AR 2.0 serves inspection purposes well enough. But if you are investing in a drone, you might as well go with DJI's Phantom 2 Vision+.

It handles much better than the Parrot, and with its HD filming capabilities you can use this professional quality video to showcase your site to clients without hiring extra help. It costs more... but the benefits are there.

Although, the Parrot AR 2.0 can be used for roof inspection purpose, but it may not be the Best Quadcopter (Drone) for this task. It lacks HD filming capabilities for a detailed inspection prospective, limited remote distance and stability is a concern. If you are more likely to invest in a drone, why not consider Dji Phantom Fc40 over Parrot AR 2.0? While DJI's Phantom 2 Vision+ may be also an ideal option, but it cost twice the amount of what Dji Phantom Fc40 cost on the market. One of my friend, a disable army veteran make use of Dji drone to make his life enhanced and better. Though it cost a bit more, but opportunities are there.
