New Ohio Home Inspector Licensing Law preapproves InterNACHI curriculum for licensing

Ohio Senate Bill 255, regulating home inspector licensure in the state, has been signed by the Governor and enacted into law. The Bill creates a new Home Inspection Board, which will outline the specific details for home inspector licensing. While the board has not yet formed, we do know that those seeking a home inspector license will be required to complete a curriculum of at least 80 hours with a board-approved organization.

According to Sec. 4764.05.© The board shall approve a curriculum of education a person must successfully complete to obtain a license. The board shall approve a curriculum of education that satisfies all of the following requirements:

(1) The curriculum is offered by an accredited public or private institution of higher education or a professional organization that has been approved by the board to offer a curriculum. InterNACHI School is an accredited post secondary education institution accredited by the national accrediting agency of the U.S. Department of Education: National Accreditation of InterNACHI School® by the U.S. Department of Education - InterNACHI

Hello Nick. Do we have any insight on reference to “the national home inspector examination” which is called out in the Ohio Department of Commerce information regarding the initial applications within 120 days of the Ohio process going live? The Commerce information states “…successfully passed “A” national home inspector examination within two (2) years from the date an application is submitted to the Division.” ORC 4767.07(d)(4) states "… successfully passing, within two years before the date of the application, “THE” national home inspector examination; The “CAPS” is for emphasis on my part.

I’m trying to understand if our InterNachi exam would be “A” national home inspector examination or if Ohio is really meaning the NHIE. The ORC reference in lower case might imply its not the NHIE.

Thank you for any insight you can share !

It says “the” not a.
