More roof shape fun.

What would you do or say about this carport. Count a non hip feature or not?
It is the only picture I have. There is a client that wants more than just my opinion so please give all the opinions you can. Have fun.

Re: More roof shape fun.

Does not appear to be over enclosed space and the roof is not attached to the main roof structure - Does not count in the geometry calculation.

Neither would I but this info is not for me. Not even a paying client. Just curious one :)

Re: More roof shape fun.

your picture doesn't provide enough info. Since its a wood framed home, many carports like this one are directly tied into the framing of the home. Only looking under the carport would tell, but the shed roof has to attach somehow. Unless there is a board nailed to the siding, which holds up the carport (which I doubt) then I would consider that part of the total calculation.

Just noticed that:p Looking at the roof shape, need more info. Looks like the carport is tied into the framing. Cant tell if the back portion is attached???

5.
Roof Geometry: What is the roof shape? (Do not consider roofs of porches or carports that are attached only to the fascia or wall of

the host structure over unenclosed space in the determination of roof perimeter or roof area for roof geometry classification).

A. Hip Roof Hip roof with no other roof shapes greater than 10% of the total roof system perimeter.

Total length of non-hip features: ______ feet; Total roof system perimeter: _______ feet

B. Flat Roof Roof on a building with 5 or more units where at least 90% of the main roof area has a roof slope of

less than 2:12. Roof area with slope less than 2:12 ________ sq ft; Total roof area __________sq ft
XC. Other Roof Any roof that does not qualify as either (A) or (B) above.

Re: More roof shape fun.

For the record once again not my job or client nor did I take the picture. Person is just looking for opinions based on that photo. I posted as a favor so they could get their opinions.

I got no dog in this fight.
