Re: RC Roof inspection robot.

RC robots wouldn't work too good on roofs. That would take forever to crawl the whole roof. And, what about Spanish tile roofs? Use a quality drone, or cam pole for roofs you can't walk...and get the...

Re: Wind Mitigation. Roof covering credit

Yes, the roof covering is also FBC. Use the application date of the original build and include that permit summary in the report. The 2004 reference allows you to submit without the permit info.

Re: Re-roof Question

The code allows adding the plywood over the battens. Removing the battens would require engineering, and possible adding support rafters due to span.

I got to be honest...I have not seen this much hot air in a long time.

Re: Cloth Wiring Question

The wrapping with tape of the conductors inside the panel may work for just that few inches of the wiring. What about the other 20 or 30 feet ran thru the attic or inside the walls that is not taped....

Re: Cloth Wiring Question

I don't consider it a valid repair of cloth wiring. It's still there, isn't it, and it still goes into the report. Let the carrier decide what to do with it. These cloth cables are very common for...

Re: egress windows

Municipal building inspectors are never responsible and never accountable. The push is on the builder for not catching it.

Re: Hip roof?

No. The two sides of that bump out roof are non-hip (raked). If that room was not enclosed, it wouldn't count.

Re: Wind Mit Question

Should be "No Attic Access" if there is no attic. "Unknown" is for accessible attic, but attributes are obstructed or photos are not possible (foamed roof deck).

Re: Roof Deck attachement, how would you rate this?

I do wish that course would be updated. I'm surprised Dennis hasn't revamped it. Oh well, I don't do politics either.

Re: Roof Deck attachement, how would you rate this?

Is that photo in the course? Using an unreadable 6" measuring device is probably not the best example. The misspelling should also be corrected in the course material..."cord" (chord).

Re: OIR-B1-1802 (rev. 01/12)

No revision for the 1802. The Citizens Insurance Co. has a revised four point form out though.

Re: Hit my head in the attic today... safety reminder, attic safety.

I have to wear baseball style caps backwards in an attic. I don't know how many times I have walked into low lying rafters due to not seeing what's above my eyebrows. These bump caps have a big hole...

Re: FL. Wind Mit question

Nope. It's considered an 8d nail on the 1802. These screw shank nails were used (and sold to framers) as compliant sheathing nails throughout the 90's, even though they are a bit short. They are not...

Re: Multi family building electrics

That has got to be the smallest service for a 6-unit building I have seen. 100A is minimum for a single family now.

Re: FL. Wind Mit question

That nail is not likely to be a retrofit nail, and if it was, it isn't the right nail.

Re: Weird framing for a Truss system, thoughts?

That's not a ridge board. It's part of gable end bracing, and not adequate for high wind loading. There is plenty of information out there on truss systems to research.

Re: Weird framing for a Truss system, thoughts?

Truss systems don't have ridge boards, and they are 99% of the time 24" OC. Is this the new norm now? Are we not getting the proper training anymore?

Re: Are double doors acceptable as Egress doors if both are less than 36 inches wide

FL is not different than the IRC. The clear opening for residential is 32". This can be achieved with a 2' 10" door with protruding door stops, but most are 3' 0". The training material is wrong if...
