Re: "Advanced Inspection of Crawlspaces" online video course

This picture is taken of a conditioned crawlspace I inspected recently. It shows that the exterior wall is insulated properly with rigid styrofoam. There is a small area on the copper pipe where...

Re: "25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know" course

Here is a summary of the Ghosting article.

Ghosting can occur when particulates settle on a surface and stick to it due to lack of air currents. Over time, grease or other particulates will create...

Re: "25 Standards Every Inspector Should Know" course

This is a plumbing stack from the 60s. It does not meet the height requirements for today's standards. I recommend raising the stack up to prevent the potential of it freezing over in winter.

Re: New way to install frost-free faucets

You are correct. This is a rural property so the yellow pump is for a septic system and the blue pump is for a well. These are also needed for homes with their own cistern. Some of the places I go...

Re: New way to install frost-free faucets

It's funny, Marcel, the plumber had recently come in and supposedly replaced the yellow pump but the severe corrosion at the fittings revealed that the pump hadn't been touched in many years. Also, I...

New way to install frost-free faucets

I had a frost-free faucet installed on a deck this week. The home owner was with me so I mentioned the strong possibility of the line freezing as this installation will defeat the purpose of the...

Who's My Client Again?

I got a call from a lady saying, "I apparently need a Home Inspection." That was a weird start to a conversation so I dug deeper. Apparently her insurance broker had come by the house and saw some...

Re: Just for fun

LOL. I used that technique because the 'colony' wouldn't approve of the technology used. I may actually show my whole body in the future.

Re: Just for fun

I know Gary. I wasn't offended. Everything has to become controversial.

By the way, the ideas on these videos aren't as far-fetched as one might think. I actually know a guy who used this...

Re: Just for fun

I am a Mennonite so I'm really only poking fun at my own culture. Life is too short not to be able to laugh at yourself.

Just for fun

For anyone who's interested, my son and I made a couple of short videos poking fun at Mennonites. We keep making more all the time. They are designed to look like someone who is new to technology...

Interesting Trap Configuration

Found this under a kitchen sink yesterday. There are 2 sinks which drain into this configuration. The dishwasher drain is the hose at the top of this set up. It's hard to see from this angle, but...

This is a repeat of a private thread. These books are a big success within NACHI members. But I'm opening up this deal to all who want to cash in.

Okay, there have been a couple of threads where...

Exclamation Advice for new inspectors

I performed an inspection last September on a vacant rural home. At first glance the house looked okay. But upon going into the basement I noticed some unusual things. There was a lot of moisture...

Re: Irregular wiring

What type of compressor do you mean? They had turned their garage into a pottery and arts studio. This plug was being used for the kiln.

Re: Irregular wiring

So I guess it's fine the way it is? I don't normally see a main breaker on a sub panel.

Also, there was no neutral conductor on the green 220 breakers on the left bus bar. I don't know how they...

Irregular wiring

Okay, here's a question: I had a sub panel that was wired from the main panel with a 70 Amp breaker. The sub panel had a 100 Amp breaker in the panel. The aluminum wire was 2 AWG.
