Re: ASHI gets regulation change that makes EVERYONE the home inspector's client.

It excludes InterNACHI from being the client unless InterNACHI is either the buyer, prospective buyer or seller of the property. It may, by implication, indicate that any consumer of an InterNACHI...

Re: Water Pressure Measurement Location

Don't expect the builder to understand and quote the plumber any more accurately than they quote what you say.

Builder probably doesn't know a pressure regulator from an anti-siphon from a mixing...

Re: Water Damaged Ceiling

No way, no how. That was severe latent damage that should have already been corrected. Sheetrock is supposed to have greater integrity than toilet paper. You found a defect. I'm sure it extends well...

Re: Opening deadfront voids warranty, says builder

Unless he explicitly tells me not to open the cover, I'm going in. I dont give a crap what he has to say about a warranty for a presale, new construction home. I'll cut the duct tape off a louvered...

Re: Fireplace or stove clearance requirements?

Doesn't look ok to me with all that soot indicating combustion spillage that doesn't go out the vent that's mispositioned (is that vent even rated for solid fuel?). I would indicate it as a potential...

Re: Level II Inspection with Flir C2

I have no trouble getting paid for it. You have to help your prospects understand the difference in "value" vs. cost.

If you get an “infrared scan” as part of your home inspection for no cost, I...

Re: Opening deadfront voids warranty, says builder

Tell him that you and your client need that in written form.

Of course, if the house still belongs to the builder, there is no warranty in effect. The warranty is activated at the time of sale....

Re: Course selection advice

Training first, imager second. IIRC The HOH class is being taught by Jim Seffrin. If so, it should be an excellent starting point as a home inspector using infrared thermography. If you have...

Re: whats happening here

Please stop, until you obtain appropriate training and equipment to perform thermographic inspection of electrical equipment.

Its not hot, its not even warm and it isn't double tapped. If it...

Re: What's this short PVC stack near floor drain?

Yep. Looks like an indirect receptor for something. If it has a trap it and is connected to the sewer, it needs a trap seal.

Re: How do you know if there is room in your city to support another home inspector?

There isn't room for you. You don't need room. You carve out your share from amongst the others and drive someone else's share down. If you find that you are unable to do that, then there wasn't room...
