Re: After today..I may begin to do things differently

Re: Pipeline cameras?

Camera’s are a great asset to a plumber. One thing to remember if you are thinking about getting one is that sometimes access is not an easy thing. Sometimes there is no access and one has to be cut...

Re: access panel

Where I use to plumb it was required to have an access panel for the tub though one was seldom installed and it was not enforced. As a plumber it made my job much easier than cutting a hole in the...

Re: Sewer vent upgrade?

This would be a wet vent which in some area’s are illegal. The S trap of course is not legal. The dishwasher drain also comes in below the trap and this should be above it and should be snaked so it...

Re: Strange happenings

Could have been a leaking fill valve/flapper and it just happened to touch of the ball c-o-ck at the same time. I would still go with the ball c-o-ck though. FYI. When ever I changed a ball c-o-ck I...

Re: Strange happenings

When I was a service plumber that would be the first thing I would check. You would be surprised at what problems a simple ball **** can cause.

You should be able to see it and manualy move it up and down if the trap is full. They are white when new.

Re: Vent, clean-out or...?

...or an access cover to something. Kinda weird to see it on the outside of the house.

Re: Water heater corrosion - help please...

Have you inspected the area in the burner. Usually you will find water seeping there first (not always). If this is twelve years old then you’ve got a couple extra years out of it compared to the...

Re: 3-way shut-off

If it is not seen, like under the kitchen sink, I like to use ball valves sweated on.

Re: vampire plumbing

That would be far easier to remove compaired to some of the cast iron plugs I've fought with.

Re: save a plumbers job

Having cleared hundreds of lines and mains I would say it would be a bad idea. After a while you learn by the feel of the cable of what is going on inside. You can sometimes tell if it is a bad turn,...

Re: New Construction Plumbing.....

The cord is probably for the dishwasher. The p-trap is OK and are often plumbed this way. I would have a triple stack of directional tee's for every thing. For example: one trap for each sink bay...

Re: Sump Pit/Pump Question

It's often in the city building code to put one in even if the water table is not a problem in that area.

Re: New sealant?

I once did a job to repair a leak in a copper line in which the homeowner could not get it to stop leaking though he had tried solder (without flux), PVC glue, electrical tape and who knows what else.

Re: Trap needed for free-standing bathtub?

Traps for a claw foot tub are usually located under the floor and if an older tub are often drum traps.

If the homeowner complains of...

Re: Turn on the water???

As a plumber who has de-winterized many houses I would NOT turn on any water. I've had as many as about 16 splits that I had to repair in one house.

Re: So what are the defects here?

It also has a directional tee in the middle which will not work good for the left side. Should have used a HI-line waste.

Re: Plumbers Tape

If you are refering to plumbers strap then it is ok where I plumbed under UPC. I liked to use PVC J hooks because they worked and looked better.

Re: Flex lines going to hot water tanks

If youare talking about range connectors then they are ok on appliances such as stoves but not on water heaters under UPC where I plumbed. Black pipe or CSST was authorized.
