Indiana Online Pre-Licensing Course for Home Inspectors

 

 
Applicants for Indiana home inspector licensure must complete InterNACHI's 90-hour online pre-licensing course, which includes twelve (12) hours of practical in-field experience training provided by an approved pre-licensing course provider and approved trainer. The 90-hour online pre-licensing course includes:
  • 78 hours of online training (online & free for members);
  • 12 hours of practical experience training (for a fee, and not provided by InterNACHI), and
"Practical experience" means experience obtained through either on-site inspection work or experience obtained in a lab setting that includes hands-on or visual defect recognition of building systems or components.

  • Cooling systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Structural components
  • Foundations
  • Roof coverings
  • Exterior and interior
  • Indiana licensure law and report writing

Applicants must complete the following:


  1. 12 hours: Complete InterNACHI's How to Inspect HVAC Systems Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  2. 4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's How to Perform Residential Electrical Inspections Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within, and pass its final exam.
  3. 8 hours: Complete InterNACHI's Residential Plumbing Overview for Inspectors Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  4. 4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's Structural Issues for Home Inspectors Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  5. 3 hours: Complete InterNACHI's Inspecting Foundation Walls and Piers course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  6. 4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's How to Perform Roof Inspections Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  7. 16 hours: Complete InterNACHI's How to Inspect the Exterior Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  8. 14 hours: Complete InterNACHI's How to Inspect the Attic, Insulation, Ventilation and Interior Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  9. 8 hours: Complete InterNACHI’s Defect Recognition and Report Writing Course (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  10. 4 hours: Complete InterNACHI's Safe Practices for the Home Inspector Course (online & free for members); including all quizzes within and pass its final exam. 
  11. 1 hour: Complete InterNACHI's Indiana Licensure Law and Regulations for Home Inspectorscourse (online & free for members), including all quizzes within and pass its final exam.
  12. 12 hours: Complete twelve hours of practical experience training provided by an approved instructor. This training is not provided by InterNACHI. This practical experience training will cost an additional fee, which is paid to the trainer. The practical experience training must be scheduled by the student/applicant with the approved trainer. Proof of the completed training must be submitted to InterNACHI at education@internachi.org to receive the final certificate of completion of the online pre-licensing course issued by InterNACHI. 
  13. 250 question final exam (online & free for members). This is NOT the state exam. This is the exam that is required by the state to receive credit for completing the 90-hour pre-licensing training through InterNACHI. Email the Education Department at education@internachi.org after you have completed all of the above requirements in order to obtain the link to the final exam.

You may take the online courses at any time. You can track your progress by visiting your education log within your Members-Only Account at www.nachi.org/account.  
 
 
 

Instructors for Practical Experience Training:

To schedule your 12 hours of practical experience training, contact one of the following state-approved trainers for your 12 hours of practical in-field training. These instructors are not employed by InterNACHI. Or you may contact other Education Providers on the Indiana website. Ask about any fees for the training.

Proof of the training must be submitted to InterNACHI at education@internachi.org to receive the final certificate of completion of the online pre-licensing course issued by InterNACHI. The form must be signed and sent from the supervising inspector to be accepted. If your instructor does not have a form, they can download and use InterNACHI's Field-Training Template

250-Question Final Exam:

You must complete all of the required training prior to taking the final exam. Email the Education Team at education@internachi.org after you have completed all of the above requirements in order to obtain the link to the final exam. This is NOT the state exam. This is the exam that is required by the state to receive credit for completing the 90-hour pre-licensing training through InterNACHI. The exam completion will be recorded in your InterNACHI account.
 
 
 

Final Certificate of Completion:

 
To receive a final certificate of completion (after completing all 90 hours of training and the 250-question final exam), go to your members-only account and click on the "Pre-Licensing" tool to download your final certificate of completion.
